Vidzeme Planning Region promotes the Blueprint and Policy Recommendations Guide

PR5 Blueprint & Policy Recommendations

On 22 February in Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, during the conference “Balanced agriculture 2024”, Vidzeme Planning Region representative Maija Rieksta presented the recently developed Blueprint and Policy Recommendations Guide, informing about the Guides’ development process and its main conclusions and recommendations as well as promoting the MOOC online pilot course and ByP4Dev project.Among the 42 participants were multiple representatives from educational institutions, agricultural associations, scientific institutions as well as farmers and students, who all can be defined as a target audience of developed Blueprint and Policy Recommendations Guide.

Maija focused on how the Recommendations Guide helps to involve the key policy makers and stakeholders for the recognition of project learning outcomes as well as for supporting the integration of by-product valorisation skills into occupational standards. Additionally, it will help the project partners and the rest of stakeholders (public and private) promote and foster this new expert profile with the aim of supporting the bio-based sector and strategies to speed up the updating of professionals to this new bio-based sector.

The Blueprint focuses on four pillars – awareness, training, policy/frame and implementation/operational level and proposes a set of recommendations for stakeholders at national, regional and local level. The selected pillars, challenges and recommendations resulted from the research and brainstorming performed by partners, involving different stakeholders.

Additionally, this event was used to promote the MOOC online pilot course and ByP4Dev project. Currently In Vidzeme, the MOOC online course has been piloted within the study course “Bioeconomics on Agriculture” for students of Bachelor study program “Agriculture” in Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU). MOOC is also included as a recommended tool for the New Master’s Degree Curricula for Sustainable Bioeconomy in Uzbekistan (BioEcUz) “Bioeconomy” developed within the framework of ERASMUS+.

Based on the auditorium feedback, it can be concluded that the obstacles and challenges defined by the project consortium, as well as possible solutions to integrate the expert profile developed by ByP4Dev into educational systems, were accepted by the stakeholders.
